Critics Consensus: The Restaurants New York's Critics Agree On

Each month we re-sync the lists that feed this map, and this page updates itself as they change. Looking across thirteen lists from nine sources, Michelin, the New York Times, Eater, Time Out, the Infatuation, Condé Nast Traveller, the World's 50 Best, and the guides kept by Anthony Bourdain and Alison Roman, these are the 42 restaurants that at least three of them agree on.

Consensus is rarer than it sounds. Of the 501 restaurants we track across those lists, 399 appear on exactly one. Getting three independent critics to land on the same room puts a restaurant in the top eight percent of everything we map. Only six clear five, and just three are unanimous enough to appear on six: Le Bernardin, Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi, and Via Carota.

What surprised us is how little of this is fine dining. Thirteen of the 42 are $$ or less, and three are genuinely cheap: A&A Bake Doubles and Roti in Bed-Stuy, Carnitas Ramirez on Avenue A, and Katz's, which has been on these lists longer than most of the critics writing them. The spread runs 22 cuisines wide, and eleven of those appear exactly once, so the tail is as interesting as the top. Korean leads with six entries, more than Italian and American combined.
